Castor Bean

30” x 30”

My husband Mike drew me this picture of the Castor Bean with colored pencils. I then scanned his drawing and printed it on fabric in various sizes. I fused the fabric appliquι and quilted it. This quilt is donated to the University of Michigan. Ricin from the Castor Bean plant is used in chemo therapies.

Canna

30" x 30"

I tried a new technique using Photoshop to manipulate the photo and then printed it on fabric. The inspiration photo was taken by Craig Cramer and was used with his permission. You can check out his blog at www.remarc.com/craig/.

During the course of our discussion, he posted two blog entries about my work. You can read his entries by clicking here and here.

This quilt was donated to the University of Michigan Hospital as a part of a collection of healing quilts for cancer patients. See the full collection by clicking here.

This project has been deeply satisfying. I appreciate how the Internet brought me together with the photographer and how our work inspires one another.
